Classic Guitar

The sound of my classic guitar has been developing constantly after the last 10 years due to the experience I am gaining by each guitar. Taste is always changing because of new experiences which are integrated step by step in the design of new instruments.

Volume of a classical guitar still has a high priority in my conception, but not at any price. Aspects such as sustain, richness of color and clarity should not be sacrificed to the volume. Volume I am achieving with a very stiff rib construction, which in the end generates nearly as much power as a double top guitar.

Meanwhile my design can no longer be assigned to any well-known master, because an own construction has developed over the years. Basically it has remained a traditional construction with a solid top that makes the tone very shapeable. With my concept of laminated ribs, however, I am adding a more modern idea. They are no longer bent over the bending iron in the conventional way. Several thin layers of fine wooden veneer are glued together, by pressing them into a jig that got the shape of the guitar ribs. This creates a very stiff rib construction achieving more volume compared to traditionally solid ribs.
Another advantage of this stiff ‘frame’ is that the energy of the vibrating top is not lost as quickly, which increases sustain. A strong bridge plate ensures a clean separation of voices in polyphonic playing, adds beautiful overtones without losing the clarity of sound.

The saddle bone on the head as well as the bridgebone are produced with a certain technique, that allows me to improve the intonation of the guitar. In this way I can control the compensation of each string individually, resulting in a more precise tuned guitar by the player. This leads to a noticeably cleaner and better intonated sound experience.


For my finish, I am only using shellac for the entire instrument. Layer by layer, the shellac is applied in the traditional process (French Polish)  by hand. Shellac has significant advantages over other varnishes. It leaves only a very thin, protective layer on the guitar due to the method of application, which allows a wider range of vibration for the top. In this way the instruments gains more volume and sonority compared to artificial lacquers. Shellac also has the advantage that it is reversible and very easy to maintain.
